About Davenport University
Davenport University originated on January 25, 1866, when German immigrant Conrad G. Swensberg founded the Grand Rapids Business College & Telegraphic Institute in the Luce Block. From 1910 to 1959, M.E. Davenport led the growing Grand Rapids College of Applied Science to success. Then, his son-in-law Robert W. Sneden took control of the newly named Davenport-McLachlan Institute. After installing a Board of Trustees in 1968, it obtained initial regional accreditation in 1976. Authorized for bachelor’s curriculum in 1984, Davenport erected the W.A. Lettinga Business Training Center at its 69-acre River City campus in 1986. Fourteen years later, Davenport University was born with one of the first entirely online programs. On its 150th year, DU invested in a brand-new $15 million Donald W. Maine College of Business building. Presently, Davenport University employs 693 faculty teaching 7,232 Panthers from 34 countries online and on-site with 50+ clubs like Business Professionals of America. The U.S. News & World Report ranked DU 192nd for online bachelor’s degrees. Niche also crowned Davenport the 420th best business school nationally.
Davenport University Accreditation Details
On September 20, 2018, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council accepted Davenport University’s Fifth-Year Interim Report to extend Level III accreditation through 2023 under its fifth president, Dr. Richard J. Pappas, who received the INSIGHT Into Diversity Giving Back Award. Based 191 miles west via Interstate 94 in Chicago, this mammoth 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to evaluate the merits of DU’s eight associate, 27 bachelor’s, 13 master’s, and 16 certificate offerings. Particularly, the Donald W. Maine College was last reaffirmed by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) in April 2016. The Finance BBA is also registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
Davenport University Application Requirements
Diving into Davenport University is labeled “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 1,976 of the 2,412 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for good odds with 82 percent acceptance. First-year Panthers seeking Online BBA majors must finish a high school diploma or its equivalent. Minimum unit standards are four English, three Math, two Science, and two Social Studies. Since 2014, the Michigan GED has required four subject scores above 145. Though the median is 3.2, only a 2.0 cumulative GPA is mandated. The Donald W. Maine School of Business seeks at least 18 ACT or 870 SAT composite marks. Accuplacer scores of at least 56 (Reading) and 40 (Algebra) are expected. Course-to-course transfer equivalencies are evaluated for regionally accredited credits graded “C” or better. The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) requires completing 30+ credits at GPAs over 1.99. Articulation agreements exist with Schoolcraft, Delta, Kalamazoo Valley, Glen Oaks, Montcalm, Washtenaw, and 20+ other colleges. The Graduate School requests bachelor’s GPAs of 2.75 and higher at accredited institutions. GMAT testing isn’t required for undergrad business majors, but otherwise a 400 or higher is desired.
The Office of Admissions at the W.A. Lettinga Main Campus generally accepts new entrants year-round on a rolling basis for online programs. However, non-U.S. citizens on F-1 visas must apply before June 24th for Fall or November 4th for Winter starts only. Prospective Donald W. Maine School majors use the DU Student Connection to file the $25 application online. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Davenport University is charging full-time Accounting or Finance BBA majors $10,965 per term or $21,930 annually. Taking nine quarters for three-quarter time costs $6,579 or $13,158 yearly. Half-time enrollment incurs $4,386 by semester and $8,772 each year. Each three-credit Grand Rapids course bills $2,193. Living at Davenport dorms like Cook Hall adds $4,964 to $5,973. Unlimited meal plans for South Dining Hall are $2,380 extra. DU budgets $904 for textbooks and $2,318 for miscellaneous expenses. University funds include the Gerald R. Ford Memorial Scholarship, President’s Scholarship, Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, Si Se Puede Scholarship, Titanium Scholarship, Medallion Scholarship, Alumni Scholarship, Study Abroad Scholarship, and Gold Transfer Scholarship. The Graduate Scholars Program gifts $1,500 yearly for MBA or MAcc entrants exceeding 3.5 GPAs. On December 1st, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation starts accepting applications for 70+ awards, such as the Carolyn Gallmeyer Scholarship, Black Men Building Resources Scholarship, Gladys Snauble Scholarship, Hackett Family Scholarship, and Peggy Kommer Novosad Scholarship. Filing FAFSA forms coded 002249 determines Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, Stafford Loan, and Work-Study eligibility. Davenport Tuition Grants are available for employees of partners like Chrysler, Olympia Group, UPS, and Porter Hills. The Michigan Tuition Grant pays up to $2,400 yearly for 6+ higher learning credits. The “Military Friendly” school also delivers a 20 percent discount for military dependents under 24.
